#7 Trunk Shows

This New York Fashion Week, Rachel Zoe held her first presentation. Instead of attending shows, the stylist turned designer showed her RTW Spring 2012 collection. I thought holding a trunk show presentation instead of a runway show was a very smart choice for Rachel. Since many see her as a celebrity turned designer, this presentation let the audience get a closer look at all 30 of her looks. I believe her collections eliminated all the skeptics’ doubts about her abilities to design a collection that is just as good as her competitors like Alice + Olivia (also held a presentation). Some key pieces that I personally love include a lace top with a tailored pant, a royal purple jumper, a gold sequined gown with ruffled sleeve and belted waist detail, and lastly a black sequined gown with a very low back.

In my opinion, her collection reflected Rachel’s own personal style mixed with a feminine flair. Each look is cohesive with one another and each garment can be paired with different garment within the collection. According to Bergdorf Goodman’s Linda Fargo, Rachel’s fall collection is selling well at the Fifth Avenue store not only because of the name on the label, but because of the clothes and fit. So the question is will her Spring collection do just as well as her Fall collection? Maybe even better? What are your thoughts?

#6 Fashion Video

My favorite Fashion viral campaign this season is Lanvin. It has created such a buzz with such a simple idea. When you think of Lanvin, you usually think of words like "luxury"or  "high end", but no one expected Alber Elbaz to be beside his models dancing to rapper Pitbull's hit song " I Know You Want Me". The campaign video features two female models, one blonde and one redhead and also has two male models with top hats. It is such an ironic video:
1. The elegant clothing is usually worn to elegant "Galas" or cocktail parties.
2. Pitbull's song can usually be heard at hip hop nightclubs
3. Models have started being used for more viral campaigns, even dancing around having a good time.
4. The models for Lanvin are dancing and throwing their arms ups and their heads back, but they have very serious faces on

Fashionistas.com named it "Video of the Season", along with other titles they gave out to Agent Provocateur for "Most Hilarious... Here is the link for the complete list.

Also two days ago @dknyprgirl finally revealed who she actually is, although anyone that has worked with their PR department could probably have figured out that it was obviously someone working for them. For two years she has been anonymously tweeting hilarious quotes and even posting pictures of everything but herself. Two days ago she finally reveled who she was through a viral youtube video.... So who is she?...

#5 Color Trends

The 2012 Fall/Winter season is filled with different warm colors. Many designers during New York fashion week had deep reds, yellows, and purples in their collections.

Some Cognac/Grenadine ( dark red) colors were featured in Marc by Marc Jacobs, Jill Stuart, and, BCBG Max Azria.

Yellowish- orange or Marigold was featured in Reed Krakoff, Luca Luca, and Yigal Azrouel.

My personal favorite is the deep purple of Saphire colors seen in Marc Jacobs, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and Tommy Hilfigur

WGSN has more colors in the Red/ Orange/Yellow color range.

Off the runway there are a lot of colors to be seen, mixed or matched, and color blocked. Many celebs and other fashion week attendees ditched the black and grey colors for a more vibrant look.

And my favorite two people of all fashion week in every color but black...

#4 NY Times Article

There has been a lot of buzz about Kanye West premiering his collection called KW during the Paris fashion week. Eric Wilson wrote a review of the anticipation, collection, and the people who attended. I enjoyed reading his article because instead of just describing the looks coming down the runway, Eric goes into detail about the lighting and the venue. This helped me to understand the overall atmosphere and mood of the show. Also he included some information of why certain people that were not expected to attended decided to attend. For example, Linda Fargo, the fashion director of Bergdorf Goodman said she ran into Mr West years ago:

“We had a running commentary throughout the whole show, and he was really into it,” she said. “Everything I was reacting to, he was reacting to.”

As for the collection Eric stated that the show was confusing because Mr West's looks had leather and fur while other designers presented collections for next spring and summer. He continues to critique the fit of the garments saying, "...it was obvious that most of the clothes suffered from a poor fit. " This may have been a result from rushed fittings as Chanel Iman was flown out only the day before the show.

This model's dress is fitted but her heels may have been a size two big...

This dress is clearly to big. You can see the side cut out sticking out instead of rested on the hips.

The top of this dress is slouching because it is too big on the model's chest.

Although Eric was confused by the variety of Kanye's collection, he offers an explanation. It is because Kanye has been wanting to design for awhile and he has attending shows for about 8 years. He has had manny ideas that he wanted to express.
